Decomposing Work

Decomposition Series
This series started as a way to learn Adobe Illustrator and to learn composition. I never went to art school, so when people talk to me about a 'good composition' I never really knew what that meant, so I set out to see if I could learn that. I image traced a photo of a painting I'd made and ungrouped the pieces. The default trace mode was black and white. I like the aesthetic and the trace picked up a lot of the textures in the painting. I ungrouped all the pieces and started moving them around - like an archaic jigsaw. This way I could alter the composition to see if I could improve it. I jokingly thought to myself it was more like decomposing the work, taking it apart. I enjoyed the process a lot and went on to mix 2 paintings this way and then more and then other mediums like Lino prints. I find it interesting the translation of something physical into digital, tangible into intangible.
